There are various interpretations of the Greek myth of Pleiades, one of them being the story of seven sisters, mountain nymphs, who were the companions of goddess of the hunt, Artemis.  Orion was one of the gods who pursued the sisters.  At the request of Artemis, Zeus transformed them into doves but Orion tracked them down, so they were then turned into stars.  Orion is said to still pursue them across the night sky.
